There are very few healthy representations of disability in our entertainment media, and particularly few of autism. In films and TV shows, autism has been stereotyped to a significant degree, which damages our social understanding of this neurological condition. Dr. Jessica Hatrick joins us in the lab to discuss the K-Drama ‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo’, and why this unusual Korean series offers a seminal representation of autism today. Jessica explains how the series is very important to autistic viewers, and why its central female character is groundbreaking in the portrayal of autism in Asia today.

Jessica is a strong believer in the need for social justice and argues that having an accurate and balanced representation in our media is a very important way to achieve this. Join Mary and Derek in the lab as they discuss Jessica’s publication “Extraordinary Attorney Woo is the autism representation we need: Gen-MZ's engagement with Korea's first autistic lawyer”published in the Volume ‘Mediating Sex, Gender, and Sexual Identity in the Gen Z Era’.
