这是我第一次正式跟大家介绍自己吧 这么快已经过去三年了 相信今后还会跟大家说很多次 你好 我是玛丽莲馒头 请多多指教 视频版本： * 小红：玛丽莲馒头 * b站：玛丽莲_馒头 联络我： * 邮件：marilyn_mantou@163.com 中英字幕： 大家好呀 Hey guys 我最近收到了好多消息 I got tons of messages from you 都在问我申请剑桥的经验 Asking me about my application experience 我这才惊觉现在已经十一月中旬了 And I just realized that it’s already mid-November 所以我决定先做剑桥申请经验视频 So I figure I have to make this video very quick 不然对于今年申请的宝子们来说就晚了 Otherwise it’s gonna be too late for some of you applying this year 但是我觉得一个视频讲不完 But I don’t think I can finish everything in one video 所以我准备做一系列视频 So my plan is to make a series of videos 分别讲一下我认为在申请中很重要的东西 On topics that I think is important for application 这次视频呢就是介绍一下我在剑桥的项目 And this video will be about my program in Cambridge 和我为什么选择我的学院 And why did I choose my college 我很惊讶我竟然还没有 And it’s surprising that I haven’t really 正式地向大家介绍我自己 officially introduce myself to you 我在剑桥的项目呢叫做 So the program I’m currently studying is called 经济学的哲学硕士 MPhil in Economics 简而言之就是我是学经济的 So I’m an economic student 然后我要学数学 And I study math （痛苦脸 Which is painful 言归正传 Anyway 这不是我当时拿到的唯一的offer It was not the only offer that I got 我当时还拿了一些别的offer I got several other offers 并且经历了非常痛苦的选择 And I made a tough choice among them 其中一个让我很挣扎的offer是来自LSE One of which is from LSE 那个项目叫做 And the program is called 计量和数理经济学 EME 光看名字 Just by seeing the name 大家应该也可以看出来这个项目很硬核 You can see that it’s a quite demanding program 但是同时这个项目也是很顶尖的项目 But it’s also a great program 我现在收到LSE问我为什么拒绝offer的邮件 I still feel a little bit sad receiving the email from LSE 还是会很伤感 Asking me why did I decline their offer 这些只是 Yeah that’s just a preview 预告一下大家今后拿到offer之后 On the tough choices you are gonna make 也会经历的痛苦选择 after you receive the offers 现在介绍一下我的学院 and about my college 我的学院叫做Peterhouse My college is called Peterhouse 是剑桥最老的学院 And it’s the oldest college in Cambridge 也是剑桥人均最有钱的 And it’s also one of the wealthiest colleges in Cambridge 学院之一 In terms of per capita 因为我们人数特别少 Because we are a really small college 剑桥总共有32、33个学院 And in Cambridge we have 32 or 33 colleges in total 你可能听说过很多人都想进 Although you probably heard people trying to get in colleges 国王学院 such as King’s 三一学院 Trinity 或者圣约翰学院 St. John’s 因为他们很大并且很有钱 Because they are rich and big 但是我认为并不存在什么“更好”的学院 I don’t think there is a “better” college 尽管进入有钱的学院可以 Well there is some advantage in getting into a rich college 一定程度提高获得奖学金的概率 Because you might have higher chances to get a scholarship 但是进入其他学院也有很多好处 But I think there is also 比如进入一个小学院比如Peterhouse For example advantages in getting into a small college like Peterhouse 就可以认识身边的所有人 Is that you get to know everyone 几乎可以和每一个人 And you form a really close relationship 都保持比较密切的联系 With most of the people in your cohort 我觉得这点就非常好 And this is very good 我选择Peterhouse的另一个原因是 Another reason why I chose Peterhouse is that 我的学院大概率保证所有研究生的住宿 My college basically guarantee the accommodation for postgrads 我非常不喜欢自己租房子 And I hate renting houses on my own 所以我选择了我们学院 So I chose to come to Peterhouse 最后也证实了这是一个非常好的选择 And it turns out to be a very good choice 以上就是关于我学习项目和学院的 That’s everything about my program in Cambridge 介绍啦 And my college 下个视频我大概会讲一下 And in the next video I probably will talk about 申请材料的准备 The materials required by universities 比如推荐信和个人陈述 Such as reference letter and personal statement 希望这个视频能对你有所帮助 And I hope this video could help you 咱们下次视频再见咯 And I guess I will see you in the next video 拜拜 Bye

从两年前到现在 每次有粉丝问英语发音技巧 我的第一个回答一定是 把辅音发清楚 这一点其实适用于所有的语言 试过就知道有多有效！ 视频版本： * 小红：玛丽莲馒头 * b站：玛丽莲_馒头 联络我： * 邮件：marilyn_mantou@163.com 中英字幕： 大家伙这个视频非常简短 Guys this is gonna be a very quick video 但是里面有一个究极有用的 But contains a very useful tip 帮助你吐词清晰的技巧 for you to speak clear English 这个技巧就是把辅音发清楚 And the tip is to pronounce your consonant right 因为俺现在要出门 Because I’m heading out to have hotpot 跟盆友吃火锅（兴奋脸 with some of my friends 所以就举一个非常简单的例子 So I’m just gonna give you a very short example 如果你想说 So if you want to say 请给我来一杯水 I would like a bottle of water 还有另一种方式去说这句话 There is a another way say it 这种方式还经常被大家嘲笑 And people always make fun of it 那就是 Is to say （请原谅我蹩脚的英国北方口音） I would like a bole o waer 如果你比较一下这两种发音 So if you compare these two sentences 你会发现第二种发音的问题 You will find that the problem of the second sentence 就在于把辅音都吞进去了 Is that the person doesn’t pronounce the consonant out 这也是为什么这句话变得这么含糊不清 So this is why this sentence sounds very unclear 尽管这个技巧好像听起来挺简单 Although this sounds like a very simple tip 但是我也是直到本科之后才知晓 I didn’t find out until I go to my undergrats study 所以其实我一直都是下意识地在说很清晰的英文 So I’ve been actually unconsciously speaking very clear English 但是自己却不知道为什么 Without knowing exactly why 是在大学期间 And it was when I was taking 上英语课的时候 English courses in my undergrats study 我的美国英语老师告诉我们 that my English teacher told us that 英语母语者也会有发音不清晰的问题 Even native speakers can speak very “unclear” English 原因就在于他们没有把辅音发清楚 And the problem is they are not pronouncing the consonant right 现在你直到这个技巧之后 Now that you know this rule 今后说英语的时候 You can pay attention to it 就可以多多注意这个方面 When you are speaking English in the future 一定可以帮助你发音更清晰的 I’m sure it will help 嗯 Yah 希望这个技巧能够帮助到你 Hope this tip can help you 俺现在要去吃火锅啦 And I’m going to have my hotpot 拜拜ヾ(?ω?`)o Bye

这期来自我的第一支关于英语学习的视频 记得当时大家都在催更学英语的技巧 但是我第一个想说的却是学英语的心态 语言是工具 是钥匙 是梯子 总之在我看来 对于大多数人来说 语言都不是目的 而是达成目的的途径 所以比起学到最“完美”的口音 最“标准”的表达 我觉得更重要的是看到 自己通过语言 想体验的文化 表达的观点 看到的世界 视频版本： * 小红：玛丽莲馒头 * b站：玛丽莲_馒头 联络我： * 邮件：marilyn_mantou@163.com 中英字幕： 大家好呀 Hi guys 我终于带着我的第一期英语学习视频来了 I’m finally back with my first English learning video 如果你觉得学习英语很痛苦 So if you are suffering from learning English 或者对自己的口语很不自信 Or you are not confident speaking English 我相信今天的视频可以帮到你 This video may be very helpful for you 今天呢我想谈两个东西 So today I want to talk about two essential things for English learning 一个是兴趣 First, is interest 一个是态度 And second is attitude 第一点呢就是兴趣 So first for interest 大家可以仔细回想一下 I would like you to take a moment and reflect on yourself 你学习英语真的是因为对英语感兴趣吗 Do you really learn English out of interest 还是说你学英语只是因为考试要考 Or are you just learning it because it required by exams 我猜测大多数人还是第二类人吧 I assume most of you are in the second category 所以大家大概率还是不会“享受”学习英语的过程 So it won’t be surprising that most of you don’t really enjoy the process of learning English 我今天呢就想给大家一个理由 Today I want to give you a reason 让大家真的能够产生对英语学习的兴趣 So that you can truly develop an interest in learning English 这个理由就是 And this reason is 语言可以让你看见你曾经看不见的东西 Learning a new language helps you to see things you weren’t able to see before 我用一个发生在我自己身上的故事来说明一下 I’m going to illustrate it by one of my personal stories 我在几年前学习了法语 So several years ago I started to learn French 记得当时上完了一节课之后 And I remember after one course 我去超市买了一瓶怡宝 I went to bought a bottle of water 看到瓶子的那一刻 And the moment I saw this bottle 我发现怡宝的标是法语 I recogonized that the logo is in French 写的是c’est bon It says “C’set bon” 就是好的意思 Which basically means “it’s good” 是一句再简单不过的法语 And it’s a very very simple French sentence 但是当时我非常震惊 But at that moment I was shocked 震惊于这么长时间 I kept asking myself how come for all this time 我怎么会从来没有理解怡宝的标志 I have never understand what this logo means 事实上我也从来没有试图理解过这个标志是什么意思 In fact I never tried to understand this logo 因为我从来没有注意到它 Because I never notice it 这就是那种顿悟瞬间 It is one of those “aha moment” 我突然理解了 That I suddenly understand why people say 什么叫做认知决定视野 What you know limits what you see 从那次经历以后 So after this experience 我开始把新的一门语言当成 I start to view language as a door 连接新世界的大门 that opens me to a new world 虽然大门可能会有些“重” The door might be a little bit heavy 推开大门的过程有点辛苦 So I have to put in much effort to push it open 但是随着门慢慢打开 But as the door gradually opens 我也会收获更加丰富的视界 I see more and more things that I wasn’t able to see before 这就是一直驱动我 So this is basically the deep motivation 学习一门新的语言的深层动力 For me to learn a new language 我希望这个想法 And I hope it can also help you 可以在你今后觉得 If you feel like 缺乏学习英语的兴趣的时候帮助到你 lack of incentives to learn English in the future 第二点要说的就是态度 And the second thing I want to talk about is attitude 我注意到很多人都在讨论我的口音 I noticed that many of you have been disccussing on what is my accent 有人说我是英音 Some says I have British accent 有人说我是美音 Some says I have American accent 甚至有人说我是澳大利亚口音哈哈 Some even says I have Australian accent 其实吧 Well 我自己也不知道我到底是什么口音 I don’t really know what is my accent 并且我的口音受环境影响非常大 And in fact my accent is heavily influenced by the government 大家觉得 So the reason why I am now 我英美音混杂 Kind of mixing the British accent with American accent 很可能是因为我现在生活在剑桥 Is that I stay in Cambridge 同时有一位美国室友 But I also have a flatmate who is from the US 我当时在意呆利交换的时候 And I remember when I was in exchange in Italy 甚至有很浓重的意大利口音 I had a very strong Italian accent in my English 所以我想说的是 So what I want to say is that 我觉得口音什么的都不重要 I don’t think accent is very important 因为我觉得对语言的态度应该是 Because I think the right attitude towards a language 把它看成一个工具 Is to view it as a tool 而不是向别人炫耀的技巧 Instead of a technique to show off to other people 因为如果你不是从事口译 So as long as you are not workingas an interpretor 翻译或者其他英语专业度要求很高的行业 Or translator or in a field that requires very high standard English 那么你学习英语最主要的目的还是交流 The main purpose of you learning English should be to communicate with others 所以只要能准确地表达出自己的想法 So as long as you can express yourself correctly 流利的组织语句 And you can speak a sentence fluently 你就已经做的非常好了 I think you are already doing a very good job 所以当你调整了对待英语的态度之后 So once you get the attitude right 你就能够避免 You can avoid a lot of unneccessary worries over 对”标准”的口音、华丽的用词之类不必要的烦恼 How to choose the fancy word or how to get the standard accent 以上就是我今天想讲的内容啦 So that’s basically what I want to talk about today 今天感觉更像是一个准备课程 I feel like it’s more like a pre-course 让每个人都能在学习具体的发音技巧之前 To set everyone on the right track 调整到最佳状态 Before we dig in to the detail technique of English learning 希望这个视频对大家有所帮助 So hope you find this video helpful 咱们下次见啦 And I guess I will see you in the next video Bye 拜拜ヾ(?ω?`)o

编辑这一集的时候感觉坐上了时空穿梭机 回到了2021年剑桥的冬天 和那个迷茫的自己面对面聊着 “你觉得上剑桥有什么好处？” 因为视频时间比较久远 音质也比较复古 祝大家听的开心！ 视频版本： * 小红：玛丽莲馒头 * b站：玛丽莲_馒头 联络我： * 邮件：marilyn_mantou@163.com 中英字幕： Guys I just have to talk about it real quick 朋友们 我必须跟大家说道说道 I came up with this idea five minutes ago 这个想法是我五分钟之前想到的 and it's mind blowing 真的颠覆了我的认知 So basically when I first came to Cambridge 刚到剑桥的时候 I didn't really know 我并不是很清楚 what is the biggest benefit I can get from coming here 来剑桥能给我带来的最大的好处是什么 Cuz it's not going to give me a huge advantage in job market 既不能让我在求职中有非常大的优势 and it's not going to improve my intelligence that much 也不能让我智力得到很大的提升 Cuz it's just a one-year program 毕竟只是一年的硕士 However, five minutes ago I just realized that 但是五分钟前 我意识到 the biggest benefit I can get is that 来剑桥最大的好处是 it helps me to stop questioning myself 我不再自我怀疑 and to stop finding excuses from the outside 不再从外部找借口 I know it sounds a bit abstract 我知道这听起来有点抽象 Let me explain here 让我来解释一下 So basically there are four types of people in Cambridge 在剑桥（或者其他名校）你身边的人大概分为四种 the super smart ones 聪明绝顶的 the super rich ones 家财万贯的 the super well-connected ones 权势滔天的 and the super lucky ones as me 还有和我一样踩狗屎运的 So when I come here, of course I make friends with them 我来到剑桥之后 当然就会跟这四类人做朋友 and I have conversations with them 然后跟他们聊天 And as the conversation goes deeper 随着聊天的深入 I start to realize that those people 我发现他们 those super smart, super rich, super well-connected, super lucky people 那些聪明、富有、有关系、幸运的人 they have the same problem as me 和我有一样的烦恼 They may be stuck in a subject that they don't really like 他们可能也在学一门自己并不喜欢的学科 or they messed up with their projects 或者搞砸了自己的项目 or they're just confused about their future 或者对未来很迷茫 You know they don't know what to do in the future 不知道自己今后要干什么 And these are the exact problems that I'm having right now 这些不正是我现在的烦恼吗 I've been having really shitty days recently 俺最近实在有些不好过 My project went wrong 正在做的项目出了问题 Everything is messed up 其他事情也堆在一起 I start to have thoughts that 我就开始“畅想” Well, what if my family is very rich 如果我家超级有钱 so they don't care if I get a job or not 我找不找工作都无所谓 so I don't have to work that hard now 这样我现在就不用这么努力了 or what if my family is super connected 或者如果我家是关系户 they can find me a job after I graduated, whatever 毕业了之后怎么着也可以帮我找到工作 or just if I am super smart that I can work out my problem 又或者我变得更聪明一点 that I can solve the problem that I'm facing right now 能够轻松解决我现在面对的问题 But after having conversations with my friends in Cambridge 但是在跟剑桥的朋友们聊天之后 I start to realize that 我意识到 all these excuses from the outside is not the solution to my problem 这些外在的理由都不是解决问题的方法 If I cause the problem I should be the one to solve the problem 解铃还须系铃人 It's not money 能解决问题的不是钱 It's not a smart mind 不是一颗绝顶聪明的脑瓜 It's not resources 也不是后台关系 It's just me 而是我自己 And I should have faith in myself that I can solve the problem 并且我应该对自己有足够的信心 Yeah that's just magical 真的很神奇 You know these just suddenly give me the faith to deal with the mess that I'm facing right now 这个想法突然就给了我面对一团糟的生活的信念 give me the courage to work on everything instead of trying to find excuses 给了我努力解决问题的勇气 不再从外部找借口 Yeah that's what I learn today 这是我今天学到的 And I just want to share with you guys 就是想跟大家分享一下 And I have to go back to my project now 我要继续肝项目了 Bye~ 拜拜ヾ(•ω•`)o
