[L] Hi Michelle, how's it going? How you feeling today? What's good? [M] I'm good. Yeah, I'm excited to be recording here today. We have a fun topic for today [L] I know I am so excited to be here with our listeners guys, Make sure you follow all ears English wherever you listen to this podcast I mean we publish new episodes four days a week for you. So make sure you follow us Michelle today We're talking a little bit about vocabulary, right? [M] Yeah guys, we're gonna teach you some tricks about Expanding your vocabulary. So how can you quickly, you know grow your vocabulary list and speak like a native? And this is gonna help you with things like your everyday life, but also IELTS and TOEFL whatever you're taking. This is definitely very important. Just how to expand your vocabulary. [L] Yeah makes me think of my time living in Tokyo where I Actually in Japan, it's easy to find those little kitchens where they have the little tiny cards They're tiny little rectangular cards for flashcards and they can go on your kitchen. It's a brilliant idea I don't know why we don't have them here in the US [M] Yeah, that would be great. [L] Yeah, it's fantastic. And I think some people even put it put them on their phones I don't know, but I would ride the train, you know my day off to Shibuya Shinjuku wherever and I would have all my kanji Written on those cards, uh-huh, and I would just be able to easily study them and just flip through them really quickly So the reason that worked is that they were easy to grab and easy to make a part of my life in my commute, Right, Michelle [M] right. So I feel like flashcards are a really good way to learn [L] Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm 100% have you ever used flashcards and studying languages yourself, Michelle? [M] Yes, I have. I mean I I've like put stuff around the room, you know to label things You know all sorts of things so it's fun I mean, I think that's one of the tips for today is, you know, try putting your vocabulary flashcards in different areas of your home Right, so like put it on the fridge, you know for a fridge. I mean some of this stuff could be for words that You know pretty well, but some of it could be for new things like, you know Just think of it doesn't just have to be about furniture, you know Just be about different different things that it might remind you of something, it could be colors, it could be anything [L] So you're saying it doesn't have to label the thing that it's stuck to, what you mean, right? [M] You know the way that most people do it 你知道大多数人都是怎么做的 but I think you know get a little bit of a little bit creative like maybe you maybe there's a picture that you love that 但我想你知道要有一点点创意,比如也许有一张你喜欢的照片 you have from a vacation and there's a word that you think of 你在度假时想到了一个词 That you associate with it and like think of how that could be useful because you want to in Regular conversations talk about your travel memories things like this So maybe there are some words that you can associate with that and yeah, those like nearby the picture

What's going on in New York? [M] Hey, Lindsay, I'm good, I'm good, Kind of a crisp fall day, but everything's good, So yeah, that's good [L] That's awesome, So if our listeners, if you guys are just finding All Ears English for the first time Michelle is based in New York City So exciting, I love New York [M] Me too, Me too And I'm finding like yesterday on the last episode, we were talking a little bit about, you know, falling in love with the city that you're in And I find that I feel like for like a little while, I was kind of just kind of used to New York and now I'm like falling in love with it all over again [L] Oh, that's amazing, That's amazing, What prompted that sort of change? [M] I think like a lot of time not doing as much and now going out and doing more and you know and also like just new things that are developing in New York that I'm seeing a lot of So new, exciting things [L] Wo, I love that, I love that Yeah, New York is a city that's always changing, right? It's always changing, It's always.. And so yeah, in the last episode, guys, if you haven't listened, go back to episode nine and then come back today to this one But in episode nine, we talked about, like Michelle said, how to fall in love when you're abroad, right? With the place you're in, You know, if you're living in the US, you're living in New York City, California, Denver,Colorado, we want to show you how to fall in love We've talked about that last time Today we're going to pull out some vocabulary that really fits into a conversation like that one, Right, Michelle? [M] Right, Right, Right, Exactly, So yeah, we have some good words to teach you today [L] Yeah, This is great, This is great So we didn't necessarily say these yesterday, guys, that you won't find them in the transcripts But if you are having a conversation with a native speaker about how to love your city these are going to come up All right [M] Right, Right, Right All right, Let's do the first one [L] What is it? Let's do it So it is "rich experience" Now, when I say rich experience, Michelle, do I mean lots of dollars and cents and dollar bills, hundred dollar bills? [M] Yeah You mean like full, meaningful [L] Full and meaningful, Robust, I love the word robust, Robust So what would be an example of an experience you've had, Michelle, in New York that's kind of a robust or rich New York experience? What would you say? You caught me off guard with that one I know A New York experience that's a rich experience I'm not going to do New York because we talked about India yesterday I'll say that my rich experience was in India, like getting to go to that wedding that I spoke about Guys, definitely listen to episode nine to hear more about our travels [L] Ooh, the India, I love that That's definitely probably a very rich experience going to that wedding, right? [M] Very fun What about you? What's a rich experience that you've had either while traveling or in your own city? [L] Probably.. Well, I'm just going to.. In the same way, I'm going to go back to what I mentioned in the last one Guys, go back to that episode Listen to that episode It was a great one Rich experience attending that chili festival Again, not chili, like not the chilies, the vegetable, but actual chili, like the meal, right? The soupy meal, The soupy meal, The soupy meal So, you know, it was getting cold in Denver It was my very.. It was like my second week here and there were like 40 people competing in this chili competition So, it wasn't just a chili festival, it was a competition to see who had the best chili
AEE-9: Is It Dangerous To Fall In Love Abroad? Part 2
加主播微信 redchen1255 参加“听友群” 受限文章5000字限制,完整的字幕请关注微信公众号 《万红自留地》 [M] So a funny story about that is that we tried to find that hotel Oh yeah. And when we were there and we literally spent like an hour like in this hotel, like trying to find the bar and you know that was used in the movie and we were walking around for so long and then like an hour into it, we could not find it And then we realized we were at the wrong place [L] At the wrong place. That's so funny. That's so funny I remember I think there was the dinosaur going across of the building, the picture of the dinosaur. Anyways, quite a movie So that's just kind of we're describing to you what it means to be in love with where you live or visit Right, Michelle? So let's show our listeners some ideas of how they could make an effort to kind of fall in love with their place, where they're living, whether it's the US, whether you're in Omaha, Nebraska or New York city or California, you know how could you fall in love? Right, Michelle? [M] Right, right, right. Well, I mean I think one of the ways to fall in love is to take a class. I mean, like especially maybe it's a dance class or like I've talked to you about this before. I like to do cooking classes abroad So to just kind of get a flavor of it and to try, try, yeah, exactly To try something new that connects you to that place [L] I like how you said get a flavor of it, right? Love it. Love it. So artistic and you're speaking, Michelle. I love it 我喜欢你说的“get a flavor of it”,对吧? So cooking classes are great. Dance classes are really good I remember in Buenos Aires I was taking a tango class and I in, you know, in Boston I took a was it Bhangra? I think I might've taken a Bhangra class or maybe it was just a, what is that? Some other kind of dance where you're dancing a lot, but you're exercising. But if you were in a place like India maybe taking a Bhangra class would be amazing. Oh my gosh. Could you imagine? [M] Well, that would be amazing. And I went to, you know I went to a wedding in India and I think that's definitely like getting like a real experience like that also helps you fall in love with the place [L] Oh my gosh. Going to a wedding. Yes. A hundred percent. If you're so I've made the mistake of not going to that wedding I was invited to in India Everyone, I think that's my rule Everyone gets invited to an Indian wedding at some point in their lives because I've had this conversation with people. Everyone's been invited but when you get that invitation, book your flight and go Don't miss the chance because such a cool opportunity. So music, dance classes, cooking classes. What else, Michelle, could we do to try to fall in love? [M] I think meet as many people as possible. I mean, I, I just think that it's all about the people really. Like whether, I mean, yeah, you know try to meet locals, but I mean, I mean the, the tour guides could be locals too 我认为尽可能多地见人。 but even, you know, even talking to your tour guide, like, you know if you're taking, if you're taking a tour, like I like to do these walking tours you know, when you stop for a meal, like don't like hide from the tour guide like go and talk to them. And I don't know, I just, I always find, you know that I get so charmed by people. So. Yeah. [L] Yeah. It's all about the people I agree with you, Michelle, get to know the tour guide hang out with the tour guide and their assistant instead of the other travelers Right. In terms of tours, I like walking tours too I like to do like quirky tours, like ghost tours We did a ghost tour when we were in Charleston, South Carolina. Right So think about New Orleans. Yeah. Yeah. Perfect. So the South, and I know

[L] So what are we talking about today? [M] Oh, well today we are talking about love [L] That's right. Big topic, right? What comes to your mind when you have that word in your head, love? I think of big hearts and I do think of Valentine's day I guess I just get this, like, you know, these like cartoons in my head I whether, I mean, maybe I should be thinking of the people I love but for some reason just hearing it like evokes these like images of giant hearts 是的。 [M] Oh, I love it. I love it. [L] And so I guess for me too, a little bit of that a lot of the Valentines, the, um, the ads, the red heart, the pictures or also what I really love is the little candies with the messages on them [M] Oh yeah. Yeah. You like those? [L] I love those. Those are so fun. Any kind of candy I enjoy, of course But I love it. So guys today we're talking about love from a few different angles for our listeners I mean, Michelle, have you ever had a romance abroad? I mean, that's let's get a little juicy here. Did you fall in love while you were studying in London? [M] Uh, no, uh, no, but not, um, no but I have had some real, I have had some romances abroad but I wouldn't say I fell in love, but, uh, I, I, I I have had some romances abroad Okay. Okay. What about you? [L] Oh, of course. Yeah I absolutely did have a romance abroad a few times And it's fun. You know, um, when we're dating someone from another country especially if we're living in that other country, it's very exotic It's very mysterious, right? Because this person follows all these other norms and different culture different language. The accent is very sexy. It's really fun actually to date abroad. What do you think? [M] It is fun. It is fun to date abroad. It's a different experience. And yeah, I mean [L] it's also a good way to learn a new language. [M] That's true [L] I was dating someone who was speaking Spanish and we spoke Spanish together It definitely helped me learn faster. Well what about Michelle when you lived in London? Did you fall in love, not with a person, but did you fall in love with the culture the British culture or London culture which I bet is kind of different from British culture? [M] Well, I think I fall in love every time I spend time somewhere I mean, like I definitely, If I'm spending more than a couple weeks in a place like I definitely fall in love, actually even more than a couple of days Like it's very easy for me, very easy for me to fall in love with a place. I mean, Because I just love travel and I love just learning about a new place. And, I definitely fell in love with London and the culture and there's, you know whenever I go back, I have been back to London since I lived there And whenever it like, I have those feelings, you know like I love it. And I'm very nostalgic for it.

Are you feeling stuck with your English? We'll show you how to become fearless and fluent by focusing on connection, not perfection, with your American hosts, Lindsay McMahon, the English adventurer and Michelle Kaplan, the New York radio girl, coming to you from Colorado and New York City, USA What is the risk of not taking risks when it comes to speaking English? What connections or relationships or opportunities are you missing out on? Find out how to get over your fear of speaking English with natives today [L] Hey, Michelle, how's everything going today? How are you feeling? [M] Hey, Lindsay, I'm good. I'm good. How are you? What's going on? [L] Not much, not much. I am excited to talk to our listeners today about this idea of how we can get over our fear of talking with native English speakers. Michelle, have you seen that students, listeners, international professionals, our listeners are nervous when it comes to talking with native speakers? [M] Oh, for sure. I mean, well, I think about, you know, when I've tried another language is to talk to people, it's scary. It's intimidating. [L] It really is. [M] So I can, I can understand the feeling, but guys, we are here to help. If you are afraid of talking with native English speakers, you know, we want to show you how you can get over that fear in this episode. [L] And I think, you know, at the baseline, it really comes down to connection, not perfection. We want you guys to take that idea on as your new way of learning English and thinking about English. If you change the way you think about English, you will actually be able to start opening up those conversations. Okay. But I want to, yeah, it's so good. It's so good 好的。 But I want to talk a little bit about risk, Michelle, because sometimes by not taking a risk, we're actually taking a bigger risk. Do you agree with that? [M] Yeah, I do agree with that. If you're taking a risk, like, you know, especially with speaking to someone, I mean, I think it's a greater risk to not say anything at all. And then you're not practicing at all. [L] Yeah. Because what happens if we don't sit, 是的。因为如果我们不坐下来会发生什么 let's imagine it's at work, guys, you're at work, you're in a multilingual office environment 让我们想象一下这是在工作中,伙计们,你们在工作,你们在一个多语言的办公环境中 What happens if you don't start that conversation in the break room with some, with a native English coworker, right? What will happen, Michelle? [M] If you don't start the conversation, you're not going to have a chance to form that connection and at work especially 如果你不开始对话,你就没有机会建立这种联系,尤其是在工作中 it's very important to form those connections. That's how people move up in the business world 建立这些联系非常重要。 Exactly. Through those connections. So you're kind of missing that opportunity. You're missing a very big opportunity. And also you want, you know, you have to want to think about, you know being perceived, 而且你想要,你知道,你必须想要思考,你知道被感知, how you're being perceived, like you want to be seen as someone who will take a risk, who can connect, things like that. So yeah, maybe if you say something, and it's maybe you make one grammar mistake. Okay, so like, that's fine. That happens. But it's less of an issue than to not speak at all, I think. [L] Exactly, Michelle. And maybe we can do another episode on this another day. But in a way, it's your responsibility, guys, to show your coworkers, yes, okay, you are learning English, but your English is good enough despite any grammar mistakes, you can still do the job just as well as anyone else. That's your responsibility to go after that and do that. And you totally can. Right. And we want to empower you to do that. So let's give our listeners a quote, Michelle, about risk , today to start off.

[L] Hey, Michelle, happy to be on the microphone with you for our listeners today. I'm doing great. I'm doing great. How was your weekend? [M] Oh, it was nice. It was nice. I got to be outside a little bit. So that was good. How about you? [L] Wonderful. Yeah, I hiked a crazy high mountain over the weekend. [M] And you've always outdo me, Lindsay [L] No, but actually, I have a story. Real quick, real quick story. We actually found a stray dog over the weekend. Yeah, it was really dramatic. So he followed us, we were scooting around Denver, and we found him on the lawn, and he tried following us, he almost followed us into the street. So we tried to find his owner, couldn't find his owner, took him to the vet, scanned his chip, because dogs now have a chip, which like links them back to the owner, right Scanned his chip, couldn't know he wasn't registered. So we took him to our house, but he didn't get along with our dog. So we had to take him to the shelter. But luckily, we were posted on Nextdoor, which is like our neighborhood forum. And we got connected with the owner. So the owner the next morning could go and pick the dog up. [M] Oh, good. Oh, wow. That's, that's quite a story [L] It was quite a day. I mean, between hiking a 14 or 14,000 foot mountain, and then, you know, finding a dog, it was a big day. [M] I hiked an 18,000 [L] 18,000. That's almost like Everest or something 18,000。 [M] Yeah, I yeah, Lindsay, I'm just gonna start making up stuff so I can compete Okay, well, wow. Okay, well, that dog was lucky to find you [L] Very lucky. Yeah. But anyways, we're not talking about dogs or hiking today [M] No, we're talking about TV [L] TV, which offers a whole range of other adventures. Right Michelle? [M] Exactly. I mean, Lindsay, I think that a lot of people when they're learning a new language, they kind of turn to the TV. And I want to talk about this today. Like, is it a good idea? Like, what are some of the benefits with learning English using the TV? I don't know. What do you think? [L] Well, you know, Michelle, I think what it comes down to, and we do a lot of IELTS, you know, if you guys go find the IELTS Energy podcast, we do a lot of IELTS preparation as well. We find that when students have a lot of material. in their mind, they have stories, they have jokes, they have current events, they have sitcoms that they've seen funny situations they have a lot to say, and they become more confident. Have you seen that, Michelle, with your students? [M] Yes, I think so. Because, um, you just want to constantly be building up like your bank of material to be able to talk to people about something. So like, for example, I always whenever like, I've had it where I've come into a classroom, Oh, what did you do over the weekend? Oh, nothing. Really? Oh, I just stayed inside. I just you did nothing inside. Oh, I watch TV Oh, a lot of people spend their weekends that way. And that's fine. So maybe instead of saying nothing, you want to always try and actually put something forward.

I'm good. It's beautiful here in Denver, Colorado, as well 我很好。 Feeling good. Feeling good, So, Michelle, on the episode last time, we were talking a little bit about asking the question Prices are crazy high, but today, when we talk about this topic I feel like this is something we might talk about our listeners might talk about in English with friends or native speakers 我觉得这是我们可能会谈论的事情,我们的听众可能会用英语与朋友或母语人士谈论 What do you think? [M] Oh, yeah. It's a very, very common topic 哦,是的。 I think a lot of people have many opinions to share, a lot of things that they want to learn 我想很多人有很多观点可以分享,很多东西他们想学习 and so, yeah, this is something that comes up, for sure 所以,是的,这肯定会出现 [L] This definitely comes up 这肯定会出现 So, guys, in this episode, we're going to give you four solid phrases 所以,伙计们,在这一集中,我们将给你们四个固定的短语 that you need to have this discussion yourself, because the whole point of All Ears English is connection, not perfection 你需要自己进行讨论, 因为 AEE 的重点是联系,而不是完美 We want you to be able to take these tools and go out and connect with a native speaker in English or anyone in English, Right, Michelle? [M] Exactly. Exactly. Very good point, Lindsay So, yeah, these are words or expressions that you can use in these conversations 这些是您可以在这些对话中使用的单词或表达方式 So, very, very useful 非常非常有用 Should we get into the first one? [L] Yeah, let's go for it 是的,开始 What is that first one, Michelle? [M] The first one, it's an adjective 第一个,形容词 It's "prohibitive" 这是“禁止的” [L] Oh, I love that one [M] Prohibitive. It's kind of fun to say 禁止。 [L] Prohibitive, Yeah, it kind of rolls off your tongue, And this means something that is just too expensive to be able to purchase I mean, when I was living in New York I did feel like a lot of things in New York City were prohibitive What do you think, Michelle? [M] Yeah, I think it's a famous city for its prohibitiveness [L] Although, you know what city is really prohibited? It's Tokyo, I mean, you've visited Japan You and Dan took a trip to Japan, right? [M] I have been there Yes, it was expensive there for sure [L] Yeah, I really felt like it was prohibitive But anyways, these cities are just world-class cities and you got to go anyways So, how does this fit into education? Here's an example, guys, Write this down The cost of education in the US has become prohibitive And I kind of agree with that 那么,这如何融入教育呢? I think 20 years from now I just don't think kids are going to be able to afford to go to college [M] It's a little bit scary how quickly the prices move up 价格上涨的速度有点吓人 [L] I know, Can you think of any other industry where the prices move up that fast? [M] Oh, there's got to be something But I feel like education is very, very high on the list What do you think? [L] It's kind of crazy So, it's completely prohibitive And guys, before we move to the next word Michelle, let's remind our listeners what they should make sure they do so they never miss an episode of All Ears English

Welcome to the All Ears English podcast, where you'll finally get real native English conversation and fluency for business and life. We believe in connection, not perfection when it comes to learning English. Now here are your hosts, Lindsay McMahon, the English adventurer, and Michelle Kaplan, the New York radio girl, coming to you from Boston and New York City, USA. The price of college in the United States just keeps going up, Is it worth it? Today, Lindsay and Michelle shared their opinions so that you can make the best decision for yourself. If you are thinking about studying abroad. [L] Hey Michelle, how's it going? What's going on? [M] Hey, Lindsay. Good. How are you? [L] Oh my God, I'm excited to be back on the mic recording with you We always have fun on this show. That's what it's all about, right [M] Definitely. Definitely. It's a fun time 当然。 [L] I know. So we were just talking about, you know, a few years ago we were both we were in school. I went to graduate school. I went to college. You did too Here's the question for today. Real quick, Do you think that at this point: college in the US is worth the price? [M] College is really expensive. I think, I think there is a social pressure and I think it's worth it in the sense of like people see it as very important on a resume. Do I actually think dollar for dollar it's always worth the price? Like do, I'm not sure. What do you think? [L] Good point, Michelle. You're right, So there's a societal thing that says you have to have a bachelor's degree on your resume. No, dollar for dollar, I really don't think so 好的观点点,米歇尔。 I think a lot of what we're paying for in the US right now for college is the experience It's like this whole leave the home at 18 and break out as an adult but you're not really an adult on a college campus, right? You're eating in a dining hall, you're living in a dorm It's kind of an in between step So I think we're paying for that in between step: between childhood and adulthood and we think it's a rite of passage. But the education itself, Michelle 但教育本身,米歇尔 what do you think about if it's just the education like what you learned in college? This is just talking about undergraduate We can talk another day about graduate school [M] Yeah, I, I agree with you, I think it's a lot just learning about like how to be a person [L] Yeah [M] Like I, I, when I think about my classes and I, I studied theater and you know, I enjoyed it and everything. But, um, I, um, I don't know, I feel like grad school was more useful [L] Okay. Interesting. So more applicable to what you're doing now. [M] well, yeah. I mean, and I also did like a slight, a bit of a career change So like obviously like to my, but, but in the same sense like I am a theatrical person and those skills apply to what I am doing on the podcast. They apply to teaching. They apply to a lot. So I can't I can't say that it was like, I mean it's definitely like worth it. Like the classes that I had but as far as like, you know, theater major like it's not like known for like making a lot of money [L] Yeah, no, for sure. So it all is who you become. I mean, I agree You have a great voice on the show And some of that came from your education, your undergraduate degree But I just want to make sure our listeners know what we're talking about 是的,不,当然。 Right. You know, right now, um right now the average cost for the school year at a private college in the U.S. was, can you guess it, Michelle? Can you guess how much it costs? The average cost for a private university? [M] For a private? Um, is it around 40,000?

This is an all ears English podcast, episode 4 How to forget about your English mistakes Welcome to the All Ears English podcast, where you'll finally get real native English conversation and fluency for business and life. We believe in connection, not perfection when it comes to learning English. Now here are your hosts, Lindsay McMahon, the English adventurer, and Michelle Kaplan, the New York radio girl, coming to you from Boston and New York City, USA. Want to forget about your English mistakes quickly? Be intentional about this one key decision,What is it? Find out in today's episode [L] Hey, Michelle, how's everything going in New York City? [M] Hey, Lindsay, everything's good, Everything's good, How are you? [L] Feeling good, Feeling good Oh my gosh, Michelle, You know, a lot of our listeners, they come to us and they ask us this one question, How can they forget about their English mistakes? How can they get over it and just connect, right? Because we believe in connection, not perfection here at all ears English, but what is one practical thing they can actually do to get over their mistakes and move past them? What do you think? [M] Well, I think it's all about, you know, really throwing yourself into the experience, right, You know, really just focusing on the experience instead, So like, for example, live in an international house or with American people when you're living in the United States, right [M] 嗯,我认为这一切都是关于,你知道,真正投入到体验中,对,你知道,实际上只是专注于体验,所以就像,例如,住在国际房子里或与美国人一起生活。 Just like you're all in. Lindsay, what do you think about that? [L] All in, I love that expression for our listeners today, to be all in, 100% immersed, Yeah You know, when I travel in South America back in 2008, I lived for three months in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and I was looking for an apartment. I found a place to live, It was truly an international house There were two, there was a French woman, a French guy, there was an American guy and there was me And then there were two Italians and there was an Argentine All of us lived in a house together, We had our own rooms. We would have dinner together, but as soon as I went there to interview with them, they said, rule number one, and the only rule of the house is that this is a Spanish speaking house So everyone there, except for the Argentine guy, were there to learn Spanish So you weren't allowed to speak English at all in the house [M] Oh, wow, Oh, wow So how was that experience? Were you worried about your mistakes or did you then kind of just forget about it? [L] It was so cool This is really, and we know not everyone is living abroad in an English speaking country but if you have a chance to do something like this, guys, just do it [L] 太酷了 这确实是,我们知道并不是每个人都生活在英语国家 但如果你们有机会做这样的事情,伙计们,就去做吧 Because at that point, the focus went on the relationships that I was building with my friends, my French friends in Spanish We were having, of course, we had some Italians in the house, so they were cooking dinner for us, lovely dinners with wonderful Italian salsa, as they say, right. Oh, it was so cool And then we would go out dancing in the Argentine evening, But yeah, that's where I really solidified /səˈlɪdɪfaɪd/ fluency in that house because I stuck to that rule and it was pretty gutsy, I have to say, actually to just move in and do that. A lot of people, I think, would just be like, oh, I don't want to have to speak Spanish or can't speak my native language, I can't agree to that You are uncomfortable, a lot of the time, guys, but these are the risks we have to take, you know, Michele. what do you think? Have you ever lived in an international house or been in this kind of situation? [M] Yeah, Well, you know, I've lived abroad a couple of times, but I like, I unfortunately, I wouldn't say that I've had the experience that you had because I lived with mostly Americans. So I was learning another language, but I was like in kind of a bubble

I'm good. How are you? 【L】Awesome. I want to start off with an interesting question for today's episode, and that is, when do you think our listeners should study English? Should they study in the morning, the afternoon, or the evening? What do you think? 【M】That's a great question, and I think it's a very personal question, to be honest. I don't know what there's one answer for everybody. I think you have to know yourself. So for me, like you know me, I'm more of like an evening person, but the problem for evening people is you don't always want to study in the evening because that's the evening. So it's kind of tricky, but you have to kind of know where your strengths lie, right? 【L】So how do you work around that? because I know, Michelle, we have recorded this podcast at all different times. Sometimes we record in the morning. We've done a few episodes here. We record in the morning. We record in the evening. I know you're usually more on in the evening, like you said, more energy. But sometimes you have to work in the morning. How do you deal with that? How do you wake yourself up? 【M】Coffee, man. That's all. I can't. Like there's not, you know, the evening people, we have to kind of like work around the rest of society because it is such a like a morning culture. 【L】Yes. 【M】So there's really nothing. Unfortunately, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. But like 【as far as 就***而言】our listeners, I just think it's you have to know yourself, you have to know your schedule. I don't think that there's like one best time. What do you think, Lindsay? 【L】Yeah, I agree. I mean, I was just going to ask you real quick. Were you that way in college too? Were you that kid that was up late studying at 2 a.m. when you were in college? I'm curious. 【M】You know what? I don't remember. 【L】You don't remember ? 【M】I, I, I do remember once 【staying up 熬夜】 very, very late. But the thing I could never do was pull like I only did one all nighter and like as much as I can stay up late, I cannot just like then stay up all night and then go directly into a test like that. I couldn't do that. 【L】Yeah. So that's a great phrase for our listeners. I think we've talked about this before, but what does that mean, Michelle? 【M】To stay up all night and not go to sleep, usually before some sort of test or something. 【L】Oh, I feel awful when I do that. I've never done that either, Michelle. But yeah, so I just wondered if your habits have changed as an adult or whether you were the same way. Is this true our whole lives? But in terms of my answer, my opinion on this, I think it's very personal too. For me, I'm the opposite of you. I'm a morning person. And for me, it 【comes down to 取决于】 willpower.

What are we talking about today? 【M】Okay, Well, Today we're talking about something that is super super important, right? This is about Interviewing, right interviewing in the US. Guys, if you do have a job interview coming up or you know that in the future you will want to interview you want to be prepared with interview questions. So we're gonna talk about common ones today. 【L】Yeah interview questions and also just kind of some key. We're gonna start with two key, Yeah more key vocabulary words that we have to know Michelle, I mean imagine if you walk into an interview and someone asks you to fill out a form and you don't know what that means. You're dead right from the start, right? 【M】Exactly. Yeah, so to fill out this is very important. So yeah, this basically means to complete the application, right? So like for example, you could say: Please fill out this application if you're interested in the job. 【L】exactly exactly, Michelle do you tend to get nervous when you have in-person interviews? 【M】I'm fine. I'm the like one person who finds them like kind of fun. 【L】You said that once about public speaking, too. 【M】Yeah, I don't know. It's just I, It's kind of, I don't know. I guess I look at it and not that it's a game or anything, but in a way it is it's like, you know, you're kind of putting on a show. It's like I don't know, It's a little bit theatrical. It's your, it's your time to really show who you are. Yeah, so I feel like if people try and look at it in that sense rather than oh my god. Oh my god, right? But think of it more as like a game or like oh what like what can I say? Like what what are some of the things that I want to talk about? I don't know. I feel like you can kind of approach it in a different way. 【L】Yeah, that is such good advice So make it a game right make it a game and make sure you go in having the words that you need That is so good Michelle interesting. So yeah, I think that's a unique perspective I think a lot of our listeners might get kind of nervous, but we want to empower you guys to go in make it a game. Enjoy yourself and just build that relationship, right Michelle ?
