Sun Tzu – The Art of War (Day Two) You’ve probably heard of The Art of War. And you’ve probably heard of Sun Tzu. But the very first sentence of this book is not what most people expect. It doesn’t start with strategy, or clever tricks, or how to win. Sun Tzu said: War is a matter of vital importance to the state. It is the ground of life and death, the path of survival and destruction. It must be carefully studied. War is a matter of vital importance to the state. It is the ground of life and death. It is the path of survival and destruction. It must be carefully studied. Right away, you can see something important. Sun Tzu is not trying to make war sound exciting. He’s making it sound serious. To him, war isn’t about showing power. It’s about consequences. The phrase “国之大事” means “a great matter of the state.” That means war doesn’t just affect soldiers. and the future of an entire country. Then comes “死生之地,存亡之道.” This is where it becomes even more intense. War is the place where life and death are decided. And the path that leads either to survival or to ruin. So before he talks about tactics, 在他解释如何取胜之前, before he explains how to win, 他先讲的是责任。 he talks about responsibility. He’s saying: if you don’t think carefully, 你失去的不只是胜负, you don’t just lose— 还会让很多人承受痛苦。 people suffer. And that’s why the last part matters so much: “不可不察也”。 It means this must not be ignored. It must be carefully examined. Even though this is about war, it still applies today. In life, we also make decisions that have consequences. Sometimes we rush. Sometimes we don’t think enough. Sun Tzu is reminding us of something simple: before you act, understand. isn’t the one who moves first. It’s the one who sees clearly first.
Sun Tzu – The Art of War (Day One) Keywords: 1. War — 战争 2. State — 国家 3. You’ve probably heard of The Art of War. And you’ve probably heard of Sun Tzu. This book was written more than 2,500 years ago in ancient China. It was a time when different states were constantly at war. Sun Tzu is believed to have spent time living quietly, studying strategy and human behavior. His ideas were later brought to the King of Wu. The king was impressed by his thinking. And made him a general. People still read The Art of War today, even though it was written more than 2,500 years ago. Not because people are still going to war. But because the ideas in the book can be used in many different parts of life. For example, people use it in business. In leadership. And even in everyday decision-making. Because at its core, this book is not really about fighting. It is about strategy. The Art of War talks about how to plan ahead. How to understand your situation. And how to understand other people. It teaches you to stay calm. To think carefully. And to avoid making decisions too quickly. One of the most important ideas in the book is that the best victory is the one where you don’t need to fight at all. That means solving problems in a smart way. Instead of using force. So people read this book today because it helps them think better. It helps them understand situations more clearly, and make smarter choices. Even though it was written a long time ago, the way Sun Tzu thinks is still useful. Because no matter what time you live in, being able to think clearly is always important.

Later, I asked her, “How were you so brave?” “You just quit your job, crossed the ocean, and brought me here to New Zealand?” She told me that she held onto a general direction in her heart. Hi, I’m Angel, an 11-year-old girl living in Wellington, New Zealand. My mum says that if a place can offer a child three things, then it’s probably not a bad place. What are those three things? The first one, my mum says, is “leisure.” When I was younger, I didn’t really notice it, but now I feel it more and more—we finish school at 3 p.m., and we have no homework at all. Even now, in Year 7, it’s still like this. Honestly, it feels amazing. I’ve realized that I have so much time to do things I enjoy. I can daydream, wander around, and tinker with all kinds of random things. And I don’t have to constantly worry about exams or unfinished homework. I think this is really important. Because I see many kids whose lives are always full, like they’re constantly being pushed by tasks. Sometimes when they practice English with me, I can feel how tired they are. I actually feel really sorry for them. I really hope they can have some free time too—even if they do nothing. My mum once said something that I remember very clearly. She said that whether a person can go far in life doesn’t necessarily depend on resources, platforms, or how much money they have. In many cases, leisure is actually the most luxurious thing. Because money often buys efficiency, but leisure gives a person the chance to grow. The second is nature. My mum says that her generation, and many children in cities today, mostly see buildings, classrooms, and screens, but rarely real nature. Real nature is when you can smell flowers, hear birds singing, touch the grass, and feel the wind on your face. These things may not seem “useful,” but they make me feel happy to be alive. The third is diversity. This is something I’ve felt very strongly since coming to New Zealand. Every day, I interact with people from different countries, backgrounds, and ways of thinking. Gradually, I realized that there isn’t just one correct answer in the world, nor only one way to live. I see many differences, and I respect them. And because of that, I have the courage to become who I want to be. A good environment should be like a big pond—or even an ocean. There are all kinds of fish, different and unique, all swimming freely. We shouldn’t all be put into the same standard and shaped into the same form. My friends think I’m a very curious person who loves learning. Sometimes I wonder—isn’t that what all children should have? But it seems that many kids lose their curiosity—too much homework weakens it, and too many extra classes destroy it. Because when everything fun becomes a task, who would still truly enjoy it? A few days ago, I read something in a book that said life is, in a way, a journey toward death. We all know the ending—we will all die. So if we always look at life through efficiency and results, it’s no surprise that many people feel anxious and exhausted. But what truly makes a child feel hopeful and passionate is that piece of curiosity that hasn’t been worn away. My mum says that a lot of education today is slowly taking that away. I think the best education is not about pushing us faster onto a track. It’s about protecting that precious life force within us. Leisure, nature, and diversity cannot be measured like homework or skills. But they shape our creativity, sensitivity, openness, and inner vitality. The deepest purpose of education is not to fill us up. It is to leave space. Not to control us, but to give life space—to grow freely on its own.
Hello everyone, welcome to my channel. In today’s video, I want to introduce a very special creator—Hayao Miyazaki—and how his creative process has influenced writers like me. Before we begin, I will explain 10 key words from this English narration in Chinese to help you better understand what’s coming next. Observe —— 观察Observe — to notice carefully 5. Character —— 角色Character — a person in a story 6. Story —— 故事Story — a narrative 7. Process —— 过程Process — the way something develops 8. Creativity —— 创造力Creativity — the ability to create 9. Lifestyle — the way you live 10. Most people think great stories come from great ideas. But when I started learning about Hayao Miyazaki, I realized something completely different. Great stories actually come from the way you live. Miyazaki doesn’t wait for inspiration. He doesn’t sit around planning a perfect plot. He just… starts. When he begins a work, he often doesn’t know how it will end. There is no full script and no detailed outline. There is only a character, a world, and a feeling. Then he discovers the story while creating it. This completely changed how I think about writing. Because many beginner writers get stuck trying to figure everything out first. We think: I need a perfect plot. I need a full plan. I need to know exactly where the story is going. But Miyazaki’s process shows the opposite. You don’t find the story before you begin. You find the story by beginning. At the same time, his creativity is not chaotic—it is highly disciplined. He works long hours every day, drawing by hand and constantly revising. This means writing is not about waiting for the right mood. It’s about continuing even when things feel messy or unclear. If you look at films like My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away, you’ll notice they feel very real. That realism doesn’t come from fantasy, but from details. The movement of wind, quiet moments, and subtle emotions. Miyazaki pays close attention to life. This made me realize that writing is not just imagination, but also observation. Your daily life is your best material. The way people speak, their hesitation, and small emotions are where stories begin. His lifestyle is also very intentional. He avoids distractions and focuses deeply on his work. He spends time walking, observing nature, and thinking. All of this directly shapes his work. His stories are not rushed or loud. They have space and a sense of breathing. And that space comes from the way he lives. This made me reflect on my own life. If my life is full of noise and distraction. How can my writing have depth? As someone still learning to write. Here are the most important things I learned. First, start before you’re ready. Second, build a consistent routine. Third, observe real life carefully. Because the best stories don’t come from nowhere. They come from what you notice. Miyazaki doesn’t just create stories. He lives in a way that allows stories to exist. And maybe that’s the real key. Writing is not about searching for stories. It’s about becoming someone who can see them.
第六集:新西兰孩子的周末 | Angel 新西兰日记(中英对译)Hello everyone, welcome to my channel. Before we begin today, I’d like to share ten keywords that will help you understand this topic better. No tutoring. Relaxed. Education. Grades. Placement test. Activities. Free time. Hobbies. Balance. In New Zealand, weekends feel very different. One big reason is that we do not have tutoring classes. There is no pressure to attend extra lessons. There are no packed schedules. And there is no feeling that you always need to catch up. Instead, weekends are truly for resting and enjoying life. The education system here is more relaxed. There are not constant grades, rankings, or endless comparisons. Most of the time, schools use placement tests to understand your level. They are not meant to judge you. And they are not used to compare you with other students. So what do weekends look like in New Zealand? We wake up naturally, without rushing. Some of us go outside and play sports. Some spend time in nature. Some join clubs or activities, like music, dance, or art. But these are things we choose for ourselves. They are not things we are forced to do. There is also a lot of free time. We can explore our hobbies. We can try new things. Or we can simply relax at home. Because there is no tutoring, weekends feel like real breaks. We have time to think, to rest, and to enjoy being kids. It also creates a better balance between school and life. Learning does not feel stressful all the time. Instead, it feels natural, like part of everyday life. And maybe that is the biggest difference of all. Weekends are not about studying more. They are about living more.
Before we begin today, I’d like to share ten keywords that will help you understand this topic better. Kiwi. National bird. Nocturnal. Shy. Feathers. Invisible. Smell. Insects. Unique. Endangered. In New Zealand, there is a super strange and fascinating bird called the kiwi. And yes, it is the national bird of New Zealand. To be honest, it looks a little bit like a shy kiwi fruit with legs. It is round and fluffy. Its feathers look more like fur than normal bird feathers. That already makes it very different from most birds. Then you notice its beak. Its beak is long, thin, and a little funny-looking. And here is something even more surprising. The kiwi cannot fly at all. Its wings are tiny, almost invisible. The kiwi is a nocturnal bird. That means it comes out at night and hides during the day. It stays quiet and out of sight most of the time. That is why it is so hard to spot in real life. Instead of depending mainly on its eyes, the kiwi uses its sense of smell to find food. That is very unusual for a bird. It pushes its long beak into the ground to search for food. It eats insects, worms, and other tiny creatures living in the soil. So why is this shy and unusual little bird the national bird of New Zealand? Because it is completely unique. It only exists in New Zealand. It represents this country in a simple but powerful way. It is different, natural, and one of a kind. Even though it is hard to see in real life, it is still one of the most important symbols of New Zealand. People work very hard to protect it because it is endangered. The kiwi may be small, shy, and hard to find. But for New Zealand, it means something very special.
第四集:新西兰小孩在“浪费”时间 | Angel 新西兰日记(中英对译)Hello everyone, welcome to my channel. Before we begin today, I’d like to share ten keywords that will help you understand this story better. Freedom. After school. Bored. Explore. Imagination. Relax. Schedule. Independent. Nature. Waste time. In New Zealand, school usually finishes at three p.m. And after three p.m., something very different begins. There are no extra classes and no tightly packed schedules. Kids don’t rush home right away. They walk slowly, enjoying the afternoon. Sometimes they stop to play. Sometimes they sit on the grass and talk with friends. And sometimes, they simply do nothing at all. Some people might call that “wasting time.” But here in New Zealand, it feels more like freedom. Kids climb trees and ride bikes without any special destination. They explore parks, beaches, and little paths in nature. Sometimes we feel bored. But boredom is not always a bad thing. In fact, boredom can create imagination. When there is no strict schedule, kids learn to manage their own time. And little by little, they become more independent. Some children go home and read. Some lie down and relax. Some simply watch the sky. And all of that is completely okay. In New Zealand, childhood is not about being busy all the time. It is about freedom. Because what looks like “wasting time” is often where children truly grow. So when the school bell rings at three p.m., a different kind of learning begins. It does not happen inside a classroom. It happens in life itself.
第三集:海浪之下:一个隐藏的海洋世界 | Angel 新西兰日记(全英)Beneath the waves around New Zealand, there is a whole world full of movement, color, and life. Dolphins race through the water, penguins paddle along the shore, and giant whales travel through the deep ocean. I’m Angel, I’m 11 years old, and I live in New Zealand. One of the coolest things about living here is knowing that the ocean around our country is full of amazing sea animals and underwater life. New Zealand is surrounded by the sea, so marine life is a big part of our natural world. Our waters are home to many different creatures, from tiny fish and sea stars to large sharks, seals, and whales. Because New Zealand has such a long coastline, there are many places where marine animals can live and thrive. One of the most well-known marine animals in New Zealand is the dolphin. Dolphins are known for being playful, smart, and fast swimmers. In some parts of the country, people are lucky enough to see them jumping through the waves. There are also whales in New Zealand waters, and seeing one is a very special experience. These huge animals remind us how powerful and amazing the ocean can be. New Zealand is also home to seals and sea lions. They can often be seen resting on rocks or beaches, especially in coastal areas. Even though they may look calm and sleepy, they are strong animals that are well suited to life by the sea. Another interesting part of New Zealand’s marine life is its penguins. Many people are surprised to learn that penguins live here. The little blue penguin, which is the smallest penguin in the world, can be found in New Zealand. There are also other penguin species living around our coasts. Under the water, there is even more to discover. New Zealand’s oceans have reefs, seaweed forests, shellfish, crabs, jellyfish, and many kinds of fish. These underwater habitats are important because they give food and shelter to sea animals. Every creature has a role in keeping the marine environment balanced. Marine life is not just beautiful. It is also important. Healthy oceans support nature, protect ecosystems, and provide food and resources. That is why caring for the ocean matters so much. Pollution, plastic waste, and overfishing can harm sea life, so protecting marine environments is something people should take seriously. What I find most amazing about New Zealand marine life is how varied it is. There are peaceful beaches, rocky shores, deep oceans, and busy underwater habitats all around the country. It makes New Zealand feel even more special, because there is so much life not only on land, but under the sea as well. New Zealand’s marine life is one of the many reasons I’m proud to live here. It is beautiful, fascinating, and worth protecting. The next time we look out at the ocean, it is exciting to remember that beneath the waves, there is a whole world of life waiting to be discovered. 之下 2. wave /weɪv/ 海浪 3. marine life /məˈriːn laɪf/ 海洋生物 4. dolphin /ˈdɒlfɪn/ 海豚 5. penguin /ˈpeŋɡwɪn/ 企鹅 6. whale /weɪl/ 鲸鱼 7. ocean /ˈəʊʃn/ 海洋 8. coastline /ˈkəʊstlaɪn/ 海岸线 9. creature /ˈkriːtʃə(r)/ 生物 10. thrive /θraɪv/ 繁荣、生长良好 11. playful /ˈpleɪfl/ 爱玩的 12. seal /siːl/ 海豹 13. sea lion /siː ˈlaɪən/ 海狮 14. reef /riːf/ 珊瑚礁 15. seaweed /ˈsiːwiːd/ 海藻 16. habitat /ˈhæbɪtæt/ 栖息地 17. ecosystem /ˈiːkəʊsɪstəm/ 生态系统 18. pollution /pəˈluːʃn/ 污染 19. protect /prəˈtekt/ 保护 20. fascinating /ˈfæsɪneɪtɪŋ/ 迷人的 听友群wx: Xi_18890389140 (请备注:Angel听友)
第二集:惠灵顿,一座充满秘密的城市 | Angel 新西兰日记(全英)Wellington feels like a city full of secrets. With its hills, harbour, and restless wind, it always seems like there is something just waiting to be discovered. I’m Angel, I’m 11 years old, and I live in New Zealand. Wellington is one of the most interesting places in the country, because it feels calm, dramatic, and a little mysterious all at once. Wellington is the capital city of New Zealand, and it sits at the bottom of the North Island. It is known for its strong winds, steep hills, and beautiful harbour. The wind is a big part of Wellington’s character. It rushes through the streets, sweeps across the water, and makes the whole city feel alive. The city is built between the sea and the hills, which gives it a very striking look. Houses climb the slopes, roads curve along the water, and hidden paths seem to lead to unexpected places. That is part of what makes Wellington stand out. Wellington is also a creative city. It is known for film, art, museums, and theatre, which gives it even more character. Places like Te Papa help tell the story of New Zealand, while the city itself feels like a place full of stories. What I like most about Wellington is its atmosphere. It is not just a busy capital city. It feels thoughtful, dramatic, and full of mystery. 第一集:11岁女孩的视角看新西兰 | Angel 新西兰日记(全英)Imagine living in a country where green hills roll on for miles, beaches shine under the sun, and snowy mountains are never too far away. That is one of the reasons New Zealand feels so special. I’m Angel, I’m 11 years old, and I live in New Zealand. I get to see what makes this country different, and honestly, I think it has a lot to be proud of. New Zealand is made up of two main islands, the North Island and the South Island. Even though the country is not huge, it has a lot of variety. The North Island has busy cities, beautiful beaches, and places with geothermal activity like hot springs and mud pools. The South Island is known for its mountains, lakes, and amazing scenery. Wherever you go, there is usually something memorable to see. The weather can be different depending on where you are, and that also makes life here interesting. In some places it feels warm and sunny, while in others it can be cold, windy, or rainy. Because of that, New Zealand has all kinds of landscapes and outdoor activities. People here enjoy spending time outside. Hiking, camping, swimming, surfing, and road trips are all really popular. A lot of families enjoy exploring nature, and there are many places where you can walk, picnic, or just enjoy the view. It is the kind of country that makes you want to get out and do something. New Zealand is also known for its animals and birds. The kiwi is one of the most famous because it is a national symbol, but there are also many other native birds and sea animals that make the country unique. We also have lots of farms, so animals like sheep and cows are a very common part of the New Zealand landscape. Another important part of New Zealand is Maori culture. Maori are the indigenous people of this country, and their language and traditions are an important part of everyday life. You can see Maori culture in art, songs, performances, and even in many place names and greetings that people use. New Zealand is also a modern country with lively cities like Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch. These places have schools, businesses, sports, shopping, and people from many different cultures. So even though New Zealand is famous for nature, it is also a place where communities are busy, creative, and connected. Sport is a big part of life here too. Rugby is especially popular, and many New Zealanders grow up playing sport or cheering for their favourite teams. It brings people together and is a big part of the country’s spirit. What I like most about New Zealand is that it feels peaceful, beautiful, and full of character. It is not just about famous views. It is also about the culture, the people, the outdoor lifestyle, and the feeling of home. New Zealand may look small on a map, but it has a lot to offer, and I’m proud to live here. 重点词汇: 🌿 自然与地理(Nature & Geography) rolling hills /ˈrəʊlɪŋ hɪlz/ 起伏的山丘 → hills that gently rise and fall beach /biːtʃ/ 海滩 → sandy place by the sea snowy mountains /ˈsnəʊi ˈmaʊntənz/ 雪山 → mountains covered with snow island /ˈaɪlənd/ 岛屿 → land surrounded by water landscape /ˈlændskeɪp/ 景观 → the natural view of an area scenery /ˈsiːnəri/ 🌤️ 天气与环境(Weather & Environment) weather /ˈweðə(r)/ 天气 → conditions like sun, rain, wind geothermal /ˌdʒiːəʊˈθɜːməl/ 地热的 → heat from inside the earth hot spring /hɒt sprɪŋ/ 温泉 → natural hot water from the ground 🚶♀️ 户外活动(Outdoor Activities) hiking /ˈhaɪkɪŋ/ 徒步 → walking in nature camping /ˈkæmpɪŋ/ 露营 → staying outdoors in a tent surfing /ˈsɜːfɪŋ/ 冲浪 → riding waves on a board road trip /ˈrəʊd trɪp/ 自驾旅行 → long drive for fun picnic /ˈpɪknɪk/ 野餐 → eating outside 🐦 动物与自然(Animals & Nature) kiwi /ˈkiːwiː/ 几维鸟(新西兰国鸟) → a flightless bird, symbol of NZ native /ˈneɪtɪv/ 本土的 → originally from a place farm /fɑːm/ 农场 → place where animals are raised cow /kaʊ/ 牛 → large farm animal 🧑🤝🧑 文化与社会(Culture & Society) Maori /ˈmaʊri/ 毛利人 → indigenous people of New Zealand indigenous /ɪnˈdɪdʒənəs/ 原住的 → first people of a place tradition /trəˈdɪʃn/ 传统 → beliefs and customs over time culture /ˈkʌltʃə(r)/ 文化 → way of life of a group community /kəˈmjuːnəti/ 社区 → group of people living together 听友群联系方式:Xi_18890389140 (添加时请备注:学英语听友)
